SAUK RAPIDS -- It may not seem like it, but hockey season is here once again and the Granite City Lumberjacks won their season opener 6-2 over the Minnesota Flying Aces on Saturday.

The Jacks built a 1-0 first period lead on a power play goal by Adam Marty and scored twice more in the second on goals by Lucas Carroll and Casey Esselman.

Granite City ran away with the game in the third period with goals by Esselman, Michael Piehler and Mack Stevens as their lead swelled to 6-1.

Goalie Robbie Goor played the full 60 minutes, saving 22 shots in the victory.

With the win, the Lumberjacks start the 2015-2016 season at 1-0 and will lace up their skates on Friday as the host Breezy Point.
