The St. Cloud State men's hockey team won an NCAA tournament game for the second time in school history Saturday afternoon in Toldeo, OH.

The 4th-seeded Huskies upset the top-seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish 5-1 Saturday afternoon. Freshman Joey Benik led SCSU with a pair of goals in the win.

Ben Hanowski got the Huskies on the board at 11:32 of the first period on a rebound to give SCSU a 1-0 lead. Assists on the Little Falls native's 17th of the season were credited to Andrew Prochno and Drew LeBlanc.

Notre Dame appeared to have tied the game seconds later when Anders Lee streaked toward the net and redirected a puck past SCSU goalie Ryan Faragher. Replays showed that Lee had clearly kicked the puck and the goal was nullified.

The first period ended with the Huskies leading the Irish 1-0 and outshooting ND 11-10.

The floodgates opened for SCSU late in the second period. Benik notched his first goal of the game on the power play at 9:28 with assists to Hanowski and Jensen for a 2-0 Husky lead.

Cory Thorson's goal at 13:35 made it a 3-0 game. The junior from Crystal was assisted by Benik and Brooks Bertsch.

Freshman sensation Jonny Brodzinski scored his 22nd goal of the season from fellow freshman Jimmy Murray at 14:53 for a 4-0 lead at the second intermission. Shots on goal were 18-13 in favor of SCSU after two.

Notre Dame got a short handed goal at 7:44 of the third period but SCSU responded with a power play goal from Benik at 11:07 to seal the 5-1 victory.

Final shots on goal were 23-18 in favor of SCSU. The Huskies will play the winner of Minnesota State (Mankato) and Miami (OH) on Sunday at 3 pm (Fox Sports North).
