The Apollo Eagles continued their strong season with a 24-13 win over the Willmar Cardinals Friday night in Willmar. The Eagles, who never trailed in the game, move to 5-1 on the year .The loss drops the Cardinals to 4-2.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard first after a 7 yard touchdown pass from Ben Alvord to Jeremy Koffi. The Eagles got an interception from Rosenthal on the Cardinals first possession of the game, but were unable to add any points.

The Cardinals evened the score 7-7 with 11:10 left in the half thanks to an Augustine Hahn touchdown run from 5 yards out after an Apollo fumble. The Eagles took the lead later in the second quarter after an 18 yard touchdown pass from Ben Alvord to Noel Teigen. The Eagles went into halftime with the 14-7 lead.

The Eagles increased their lead int the third quarter after another touchdown pass from Alvord to Teigen, a 55 yard reception with 6:08 left in the third quarter that gave Apollo a 21-7 lead. Willmar answered back after a touchdown pass from Hahn to Christopher Cunningham with 1:37 left in the third quarter. The extra point failed to make the score 21-13.

The Eagles and Cardinals exchanged turnovers in the fourth quarter, with the eagles recovering a Willmar fumble at the Cardinal's 9 yard line. The Eagles kicked a field goal to take a 24-13 lead. Noel Teigen had a late interception for the Eagles to seal the win. Up next for the Eagles is a game at home against St. Cloud Tech on Friday.
