MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Gophers improved to a 4-0 record after defeating the San Jose State Spartans 43-24.

The Gophers relied on running the ball today, gaining 353 rushing yards in the victory with only 71 total yards passing.

Quarterback Mitch Leidner, who filled in for injured starter Philip Nelson, rushed for a grand total of 151 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Gophers to victory.

 

Running back David Cobb also rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns in the victory this afternoon.

Coach Jerry Kill returned to the sidelines today, a week after missing the second half against Western Illinois due to a seizure.

The Gophers will be at home again next week, taking on the Iowa Hawkeyes.
