Five area teams entered the Excel Energy Center on Thursday morning with the goal of a state team title. Kimball, Foley, Pierz, Milaca, and Little Falls all qualified for the state team tournament and competed today.

Pierz started off the day with a loss to number one seed Jackson County Central and then lost a heartbreaker in the consolation semifinals, to fourth seeded Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial, on a tie-breaker. Both Little Falls and Milaca also fell in the first round, but both battled back to the 5th place match in their respective classes. Milaca beat Monticello to place 5th, but Little Falls fell short in their bid for hardware.

Class AA 3rd Place Match
Foley 32, Kasson-Mantorville 22

Foley opened up the day with a 47 to 10 victory over Windom Area/ Mountain Lake/ Butterfield-Odin. Tristan Manderfeld, Tyler Jenson, Chavez Goble, and Cameron Svihla all scored a fall in Foley’s blowout win. Unfortunately, Foley was out-dueled, in the second round, by 2nd seeded Scott West 31-21. Tristan Manderfeld would get things going for Foley at 113; scoring a 21-3 technical fall over KM’s Ryan Erdmann. Things would go back and forth until the 152 pound match when senior Tyler Bemboom put Foley ahead for good. They would go on to win the duel, and avenge last year’s loss, by a sore of 32-22.
