The Cathedral Crusaders will have a new boys soccer coach for the 2014 season after longtime coach John Pepper stepped down following the 2013 campaign.

Matt Zimmerman, who graduated from CHS in 1998, will take the reigns of the team from Pepper, who coached the Crusaders for 14 seasons.

Zimmerman was the goalkeeper on Cathedral's 1997 state tournament team, the first in school history. He has spent the last several years as an assistant under Pepper.

"I am confident (Zimmerman) will continue the tradition of excellence that has been established in our soccer program," Cathedral Activities Director Emmett Keenan said Tuesday when announcing the hiring.
