The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Texas Rangers in game 1 of the World Series in St. Louis Wednesday night.  Chris Carpenter threw 6 innings with 2 earned runs allowed to get the win. Lance Berkman had a 2-run single for the Cardinals before Allen Craig broke the 2-all tie with a pinch-hit RBI single in the 6th inning.  Mike Napoli hit a 2-run homerun for the Rangers.

St. Louis leads the best of 7 series 1 game to none and will host Texas tonight in Game 2 of the World Series at 7:05.  Righthander Colby Lewis  will start for the Rangers and Jaime Garcia will start for the Cardinals.
