Sartell-St. Stephen 3, Sauk Rapids-Rice 2

SAUK RAPIDS- The Sartell-St. Stephen Sabres topped the Sauk Rapids Rice Storm 3-2 Tuesday night at Sports Arena East.

Sabres junior Austin Gohl scored the first period's only goal just two minutes in, with the assist credited to Matthew Bakken. Sartell-St. Stephen outshot the Storm 10-4 in the opening period.

Sophomore Keenan Lund gave the Sabres a 2-0 lead at 13:47 of the second period on a tough-angle shot past Storm goaltender Will Mortenson. An assist was credited to Spencer Zwiener on the goal.

The Storm got on the board just :27 later on a Brandon Duray wrister past Sabres goalie Elliott Brookins to cut the Sartell-St. Stephen lead to 2-1.

However, standout senior forward Kyle Erickson answered for the Sabres at 15:30 to give his team a 3-1 lead. Erickson's eventual game-winner was scored unassisted after he skated the puck from behind the net, then walked in front and stuffed the puck home past Mortenson.

After two periods the Sabres led the shot category 23-13.

Sauk Rapids-Rice was  able to again cut the S-SS lead to a single goal when junior Calvin Barthel scored at 5:25 of the third period to make it a 3-2 game.

Although the Storm outshot the Sabres 15-6 in the third period they were not able to get the equalizer before time ran out on their season.

The Storm finish the season 17-9, while the Sabres advance to take on Cathedral Saturday night at the MAC.

Apollo 3, Fergus Falls 0 

ST CLOUD- Nick Althaus made 13 saves as Apollo shut out Fergus Falls 3-0 at the Municipal Athletic Complex Tuesday night.

The teams entered the first intermission scoreless, with the Eagles outshooting the Otters 12-2 in the opening period.

Apollo sophomore Skyler Rieland opened the scoring at 4:44 of the second period with a power play goal that was assisted by Dallas Haugen.

Haugen himself scored at 15:34 of the second on the power play, with assists credited to Logan Traut and Brandon Baker. Shots on goal favored the Eagles 17-7 in the second period and 29-9 overall through two periods.

Jason Omann capped the scoring for Apollo with an unassisted goal at 3:27 of the third period.

The Eagles will take on the winner of Alexandria/Prairie Center Saturday night.

Cathedral 8, Little Falls 1

ST CLOUD- The Cathedral Crusaders cruised past Little Falls 8-1 Tuesday night at the MAC in St. Cloud.

The Crusaders scored goals less than a minute apart late in the first period for a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Matson Courrier started the scoring at 14:41 from Logan Neu, and William Hammer, with Hammer scoring at 15:37 from Matt Fritz and Trevor Cornelius.

The Flyers got a puck past CHS netminder Zach Fritz with just :12 left in the opening period to cut the lead to 2-1 at the intermission. Landon Bjorge was credited with the goal for Little Falls. The Crusaders outshot the Flyers 16-5 in the opening period.

Cathedral junior defenseman Peter O'Neal charted a goal at 7:15 of the second period to give the Crusaders a 3-1 lead. Daniel Bailey scored a 10:40 of the second for a 4-1 CHS lead after two periods. Cathedral outshot Little Falls 14-3 in the second period and 30-8 through two periods.

The Crusaders got third period goals from Neu, O'Neal, Chris Hornung and Brady Johnston to seal the win, and finished with 45 shots on goal to Little Falls' 16.

SECTION 8AA

Moorhead 8, Tech 0 

MOORHEAD- The Moorhead Spuds thumped the Tech Tigers 8-0 Tuesday night in Moorhead.

The Spuds' Will Borgen scored  just :20 into the opening period to set the tone, and Moorhead led 5-0 after one period of play. Shots on goal in the first period ended up at 18-3 in favor of Moorhead.

Moorhead scored three more goals in the second period and outshot Tech 56-18 in the game.
