ST. CLOUD -- The Apollo Eagles hosted their season opener Friday against the ROCORI Spartans and delighted the home crowd with a 27-15 win.

The Eagles would get off to a fast start thanks to a pair of short touchdown runs by junior quarterback Ben Alvord.

Apollo would ride that momentum to a 14-6 half time lead.

Both defenses picked things up in the second half. Apollo registered a couple of sacks against Rocori quarterback Skippy Virchow.

The Spartans would close the scoring gap with a safety after a bad snap went over the Apollo punter's head and through the back of the end zone.

Later in the quarter, senior running back Kyle Rosenthal would find a hole and punch it in for another Eagle touchdown.

Apollo would go on to win the game 27-15.
