Nehro ran his heart out in Saturday's 137th running of the Kentucky Derby. But like my father once told me after a baseball game - "Sometimes you just get beat".

That was the case on Saturday, when longshot Animal Kingdom came roaring down the strecth, winning the Derby at 20-1, leaving Nehro - and the rest of the 19 horse field - helpless in his wake.

Nehro was clearly the 2nd best horse on Saturday. Because of his #19 post position, he was forced to be much closer to the lead than he is used to. He was also forced to travel virtually the entire trip 4 - wide. In the stretch, he held off all comers, except the winner, who had a perfect trip. Speaking of the at winner.

Animal Kingdom had never raced on a dirt track before. This was the first time in 137 years that a horse won the Derby without ever racing on the dirt.

Also, jockey John Velasquez had never ridden Animal Kingdom before Saturday. He had only seen video of the horse, and had conversations with the horse's previous rider, Robbie Albarado. It is very rare for a jockey to win a race his first time aboard a horse, so for that to happen in the Kentucky Derby, is unimaginable.

Hopefully, Nehro and Animal Kingdom, can continue this budding rivalry in the Preakness Stakes, at Pimlico in two weeks. Neither will be the longshot that each was this past Saturday, but both will be bet on heavily.

Animal Kingdom will be the favorite.

But if he's gonna win, and make a bid for the triple crown, we know that Nehro is going to make him work for it.

We'll see on May 21.
